@Vincent, applications are open to all and we encourage innovators from around the world to participate! However, solutions should seek to address and solve for the North American market as a primary focus, in the near term. We will look for solutions that have global applicability in the long term.
Christopher Krohn
50:16
@Robert please reach out to us at circular@ideo.com
Christopher Krohn
51:03
@Aditya, yes! Innovators are welcome to submit multiple solutions. Please submit these as separate applications on the platform.
Christopher Krohn
51:24
Yes, submissions are due at midnight PST on Friday, September 4th
Youssef Elbehri
52:02
What is the role of a material or topic expert in a single field that is applicable to the overall project? How can we get involved without providing a complete design solution?
Christopher Krohn
52:18
@Vincent, the title should be an easily referred to name of your solution, this could be your company name, or product name — however you would like us and Partners to refer to the solution. The solution question asks for a description of your solution as it currently exists today.
Christopher Krohn
54:41
@Glen, we will share this presentation following the webinar
Christopher Krohn
56:19
Hi Robert, please email me directly to discuss partnerships <ckrohn@ideo.com> thanks!
Christopher Krohn
58:02
@Youssef, great question! For those who are not interested in submitting a concept but would like to be involved, please complete the following form <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd0PF02I7TTi91F5lGLmYxOFITys-wT2vKpvKDYwFCw2KVnlA/viewform> and we will seek to pair you with innovators who can learn and benefit from your expertise
Youssef Elbehri
59:11
Thank you!
Christopher Krohn
01:02:03
@Vincent: Solutions, if addressing delivery, should seek to address this in the local context as would be the case for product delivery directly from a local retailer, as opposed to shipping and logistics of national or global delivery system
Christopher Krohn
01:02:51
@Ritvik, yes! We welcome cultural contexts and solutions applicable around the world, however, we ask that you also consider the North American context and how your solution might apply here, or describe some of the differences.
Christopher Krohn
01:03:41
@David, we have word count limits that you’ll see on the submission form, but a 2-3 page summary is desired, and include white paper or longer descriptions as attachments for deeper review.
Christopher Krohn
01:04:25
@Adrienne, yes, considering COVID safety is strongly encouraged across submissions
Christopher Krohn
01:06:17
@Shanice, please review our terms and conditions for IP overview and protections. Please do not submit any confidential information as part of your application. If you desire to keep your content hidden from the broader public and viewable only to the Consortium, please select the “Non-Public Submission Track”
Christopher Krohn
01:08:08
@Guy, great question, submission criteria does differ for Advanced Solutions–who should be currently operating at scale, and have or are in the process of making significant progress regarding certifications, please review the Advanced Submission page for more information
Christopher Krohn
01:09:13
@Vincent, we will be sharing this presentation following the webinar
Christopher Krohn
01:12:35
@All, we are very interested in submissions that seek to redefine the product to end-destination system entirely. So we encourage solutions that design beyond new materials into our other identified opportunity areas
Christopher Krohn
01:12:46
@Glen yes during the final evaluations
Pamela Odumo
01:12:52
Are biodegradable bags a possibility? Their manufacturers say that they fit the bill, but do they really?
gary borofsky
01:14:38
Other than the t shirt bag we are trying to replace, is there any value of replacing the 20 gallon plastic kitchen bag
Christopher Krohn
01:15:12
@Martin, we are seeking solutions that are ideally a bit beyond the very early concept stage, and have already begun developing their products / systems at some level. Therefore, the submission window should allow for existing concepts to package and submit their content
Freedom Fonner
01:16:11
Kate, you talk about price competitiveness yet you want things to be cheap and environmentally friendly. Those values don’t go hand in hand. The currently used plastic bag has such a low bar and nobody truly pays the cost of the consequences of this product that to compete with this product is truly difficult. Unless the retailer is willing to be inconvenienced temporarily (which corporations are not willing to do), no answer will be enough. What do you think about this?
Christopher Krohn
01:17:21
@Pamela, we are open to alternative materials and thus alternative recovery models, however, we encourage innovators to consider the realities of the global recovery landscape, the capabilities that currently exist within that space, and where gaps exist that might prevent new materials to truly operate and recover at scale. Ultimately, solutions should be applicable in large markets and demonstrate an understanding of recovery markets.
Christopher Krohn
01:18:10
@e832d3c9, yes! The OpenIDEO platform is interactive, you can find, connect, and communicate with other innovators as well as the IDEO team
Pon Sunder Rajan Suthakar
01:19:07
@pamela https://plastics.americanchemistry.com/Life-Cycle-Assessment-for-Three-Types-of-Grocery-Bags.pdf this will be useful for you. All those biodegradable bags emits more pollution than the plastic bags which we use.

@Aditya, great question, no not necessarily. We are seeking solutions that address our evaluation criteria and consider scale and recoverability
Christopher Krohn
01:23:43
@Josh, no, capital investment distributed to winners does not require any equity exchange
Christopher Krohn
01:24:36
@David, you can upload your video to youtube, vimeo or another platform and share a link, or upload directly as a file attachment on our platform
Christopher Krohn
01:25:51
@Jesse, please review the Challenge Brief for more information on Advanced Solutions https://www.openideo.com/challenge-briefs/beyond-the-bag-challenge >> but in short, these solutions should be operating at a large scale
